BUST Breast Cancer Event 2015!!
Every year I donate a bra to the BUST Breast Cancer runway show. This event is put on to help raise money for new Mammography Charter Buses for Woman's Hospital. This event also serves as an awareness and educational forum for the community.
* According to the Susan G. Komen Baton Rouge affiliate, of all the
states, Louisiana has the highest mortality rate from breast cancer in
the nation.
* More than 95 percent of breast cancer cases can be cured with
early detection and prompt treatment, but many women struggle to find access to breast care.
The current Mobile Mammography Coach travels in 15 parishes, offering
life-saving screenings to women in need. Since 2006, Woman's Mobile
Mammography Coach has performed more than 35,000 mammograms and
detected undiagnosed cancers in several hundred women, my own mother being one of them.
After my first year as an artist for this event, I became concerned that without insurance (at the time) I wasn't getting the proper care for myself as breast cancer has been prevalent in my family. So the week after the 2013 event, I decided to go wherever the next scheduled Mammography Charter would be. I was so nervous, being 28 years old, my mother suggested we could make it a mother/daughter thing and get checked together. Turns out it was a huge blessing that she came with me when she did because they detected early stages of Breast Cancer.
This is a wonderful event and I encourage everyone to come check out the show, eat some delicious food, and maybe bid on a piece of bosom Art for a wonderful cause!!!
